The Minister of Defence is Søren Gade.

The Ministry of Defence is the secretariat of the Minister of Defence. Its functions comprise overall planning, development, and strategic guidance of the entire area of responsibility of the minister, including the armed forces and the emergency management sector.

Danish Defence Agreement 2010-2014
The Danish Defence Agreement is a political agreement between a broad majority of the political parties in the Danish Parliament. The present Defence Agreement covers the period from 2005-2009. Therefore, a new agreement on Danish Defence was agreed upon on 24 June 2009, covering the period from 2010-2014. Read the Danish Defence Agreement 2010-2014. Information on the Danish effort in Afghanistan
Since 2002, Denmark has had military personnel in Afghanistan as a part of the international force. The strategy of the Danish effort in Afghanistan is long-term – and the motto for the effort is, “As military as necessary – as civilian as possible”.

New NATO TV Station on Danish Initiative
Together with NATO Headquarters, Denmark has headed the development of the new NATO web TV station, which was introduced during the NATO summit in Bucharest.

After a lengthy cooperation between NATO and Denmark, the new NATO web TV station, natochannel.tv, has now become a reality.

natochannel.tv received its première during the NATO summit in the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer offered a joint introduction of the channel.

Danish initiative
natochannel.tv was established as a result of the conclusions from a Public Diplomacy conference held in Copenhagen last year. The conclusions specifically stated that NATO and the ISAF countries must make an effort to improve the level of information from the mission areas.

More than two million hits in 24 hours
In the first 24 hours of the existence of the new NATO channel, natochannel.tv received nearly two and a half million hits. The concept of the channel was developed from forsvarskanalen.dk – the Danish web TV channel about the defence.
