The Veteran Policy of Denmark

The Veteran Policy of Denmark emulates the general principles and overall objectives of the recognition and support of veterans and their relatives. The policy is the frame wherein concrete initiatives in the field of veterans come to life. The results of the initiatives are continuously evaluated to ensure an optimal product is provided. From these evaluations, the initiatives are adjusted in accordance with current needs.

The Veteran Policy of Denmark

The Government’s service check of the veteran effort of 2016
The service check of the veteran effort was started in a public meeting in September of 2015. Those attending were from within the Ministry of Defence, public authorities, unions and voluntary organisations, of which many are veterans themselves. At the meeting knowledge was exchanged and proposals for new initiatives were brought forth. It is recognized that the veteran effort can still be improved, and many of the ideas and proposals for new initiatives will be realised as a direct result of the service check. The remaining proposals will serve as inspiration when future goals for the effort are set.

The Veteran report of 2016
In order to conduct the service check of the veteran effort, The Ministry of Defence formed a working group with members from The Ministry of Defence and The Veteran Centre. The working group has discussed the veteran effort with the subordinate authorities of The Ministry of Defence. Since the extent of the veteran effort is a shared responsibility between The Ministry of Defence and the Danish society, the working group has also convened with representatives from other relevant ministries, Local Government Denmark, Danish Regions, the business community as well as voluntary organizations and unions. The result of the service check of 2016 is documented in this the following report:
