The Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen, and the Ukrainian Minister of Defence, Rustem Umerov, have signed an agreement that will support the establishment of production by companies from the Ukrainian defence industry in Denmark. The Government has allocated over 67 million euro to strengthen efforts to establish Ukrainian companies in Denmark.
”Denmark is taking the lead by giving companies from the Ukrainian defence industry the opportunity to begin production in Denmark. The agreement will form the basis for close cooperation between the Danish and Ukrainian defence industry. At the same time, it will provide the Danish Armed Forces with easier access to some of the newest technologies and experiences from Ukraine. In this way, the integration of our defence industries will greatly benefit the security and resilience of both countries,” says Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen.
”This letter marks our first step in the ‘Build with Ukraine Initiative’, which I announced in our last Ramstein session. I am glad we took this step with Denmark, one of our closest partners, who has provided billions in security assistance to Ukraine and helped our defence industry grow with the Danish model. Our joint projects under this new initiative will become the bedrock of the Danish-Ukrainian relations for decades to come.” says Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov.
The Danish and Ukrainian ministers of defence signed the agreement in connection with the NATO-summit in The Hague.
”Putin’s horrors know no bounds. Denmark has stood shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainians since the beginning of the war. And now we are once again showing the unwavering Danish support. We live in troubled times, and it is absolutely crucial that we have a strong defence industry. This agreement brings us much closer to realizing the great potential of the Danish defence industry. On a tragic background, the Ukrainian defence industry has gained many valuable experiences that our own industry can now more easily benefit from, as we welcome the Ukrainians to Danish soil. This is a major contribution to Ukraine’s fight for freedom, as well as to the Danish and European armament,” says Danish Minister for Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Morten Bødskov.
In the current security situation, it is necessary to ensure the development of new facilities and supply chains in Europe to strengthen the overall fighting capability of Denmark and Europe. By establishing Ukrainian companies in Denmark, the Danish Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, will ensure a higher degree of integration of Ukraine into the European defence industry.
Furthermore, the most important gathering of experience and technological development within the defence industry is currently taking place as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
”It is on a tragic background that the Ukrainians, with enormous speed and impressive innovation, have managed to build and scale up their defence production. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Denmark has supported Ukraine with significant military, civil, and economic aid. That support continues. With the establishment of companies from the Ukrainian defence industry in Denmark, we intensify the cooperation for the benefit of the security of both Ukraine and the rest of Europe,” says Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen.
