Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom, John Healey, arrives in Copenhagen today, to discuss strengthening defence cooperation between Denmark and the United Kingdom, bilaterally as well as in NATO.
“There is no doubt that Denmark is interested in enhancing the cooperation with the United Kingdom. We live in a time that calls for a strengthened cooperation among Allies in NATO and Europe. The United Kingdom is an important security- and defence industry partner to Denmark and I am looking forward to meeting my British colleague today, so we can discuss how to further develop our existing cooperation,” says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
Denmark and the United Kingdom are longstanding and close partners on military support, including in Ukraine. Denmark and the United Kingdom are initiators of the “international Fund for Ukraine” in 2022. The close partnership has also been demonstrated in terms of training of Ukrainian soldiers, where Denmark has contributed to the British leading training effort “Operation Interflex”. The cooperation continues in the Coalition of the Willing under French-British management.
In relation to the current situation regarding Greenland, Defence Minister Poulsen takes the opportunity to thank Minister Healey for the British support, benefitting the collective security of the NATO alliance in the Arctic.
“I greatly appreciate the United Kingdom’s tireless efforts and leadership in the security and defence domaine, including with regards to the “International Fund for Ukraine” and through training of Ukrainian soldiers. The strong cooperation in support of Ukraine now continues in the “Coalition of the Willing”, as Denmark stand ready to contribute to a European multinational force. Last but not least, I will of course also take the opportunity to thank Minister Healey for the British support to security in the Arctic, benefitting the collective security of the NATO alliance, says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.
