In December 2024 and during the turn of the year, Denmark and Ukraine have finalized procurements in the Ukrainian defence industry for approximately 538 million euros channelled through the Danish model for procurements in Ukraine. The procurements have been financed partly by windfall profits from immobilized Russian assets, where Denmark has acted as implementing actor on behalf of the EU through the European Peace Facility as well as funds from Sweden and Iceland and from the Danish national fund for military support to Ukraine.

“I am very proud of the cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine on the Danish model. I am also impressed by the speed the Ukrainian defence industry can deliver. Important materiel is now at the frontline or on its way and I encourage more nations to consider supporting Ukraine through its defence industry. Denmark will continue to lead the way” says the Danish Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen.

Based on Ukrainian requests the Danish model has financed procurement of further Bohdana artillery systems in addition to the systems already donated by Denmark in the early autumn. The procurements also include long-range strike drones, anti-tank missiles and systems, and anti-ship missiles.

“We are grateful to Denmark for its leadership, unwavering support, and the effective implementation of the 'Danish model' of cooperation with Ukraine's defence industry. The procured equipment has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield, strengthening our ability to resist the enemy and bringing us closer to victory. We hope Denmark's example will inspire other countries to undertake similar initiatives, as this will contribute to the shared future security of Europe and the world,” says Ukraine's Minister of Defence, Rustem Umerov.

Procurements through the Ukrainian defence industry have many advantages including fast delivery, competitive prices and the possibility of conducting training and maintenance near the frontline. Also, the procurements are a way to support the Ukrainian society in a difficult time of war as workplaces are kept open. Denmark has allocated 135 million euros for procurements in the Ukrainian defence industry in 2025.
